What are dental implants?
Dental implants are medical devices surgically implanted into the jaw to restore a person’s ability to chew or their appearance. They provide support for artificial (fake) teeth, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical phases. Initially, the implant is placed into the bone. During the first 3-4 months after surgery, the implant is covered by the gums until is osseointegrated into the jaw bone. During a second minor surgical procedure the implant is revealed and the prosthetic rehabilitation is completed.
